Digital Signature

A digital signature is a process performed on a data stream that is based on the use of public key cryptography and cryptographic message digests.

The purpose and function of a digital signature is twofold:

  1. Determine the data “signed” has not been altered
  2. Determine the person or entity who signed the data has been authenticated.

For more information, see Adobe’s Digital Signatures in the PDF Language.
